ITINERARY – Highlights of Ephesus
Meeting with your private guide at the exit gate of Kusadasi Port, to enjoy Highlights of Ephesus. Drive to Seljuk Town to visit sites of Ephesus Ancient City.We are going to start with the House of the Virgin Mary includes panoramic views of the Byzantine fortress in Seljuk and the Temple of Artemis. A long and winding road affords wonderful views of the valley en route to the Shrine of St. Mary. The diminutive house, beautifully situated in the Solmissos Mountains, is considered by the Vatican to be the final resting place of the Virgin Mary.
Your tour Proceed to ancient Ephesus, where you´ll pass through the Magnesia Gate and continue a slow, downhill walk to the heritage of Roman Empire. Your Trained guide will highlight such sights as the beautifully preserved Temple of Hadrian, the fascinating Trajan Fountain, the Odeon Theater, once used for both political and entertainment activities , and the amazing Celsus Library with its impressive facade and two story Corinthian-style columns. The Great Theater is one of the few structures still used today these are some of the Highlights of Ephesus. It seats twenty-four thousand and, although it was once an arena for gladiator games, it is now home to annual spring festivals.
The Basilica of St. John is still an amazing sight to explore. Among the remains, large columns, frescoes and mosaics still standing, basilica built during Emperor Justinian´s reign. The structure was created in the shape of a cross and covered with six individual domes, the central one of which is thought to lie directly above the burial site of St. John.
Ephesus archaeological Museum, home of some of the findings of Ephesus excavations. Unlike a traditional museum, the artifacts are not displayed in chronological order, but rather in a series of themed rooms and courtyards. There is much variation in the collection and the famous statue of Artemis, Goddess of Fertility, is housed within its walls at the end we will have carpet demonstration to see how the Turkish carpets are made by hand there is no obligation for shopping. Special Notes – Highlights of Ephesus
Guests must be able to walk approximately 1.5 miles over uneven and cobblestone surfaces, inclines and 10 – 50 steps. Comfortable shoes, a hat and plenty of sunscreen are recommended as shade is limited the order of the tour itinerary may vary in order to avoid congestion. Guests should watch their step at all times in order to avoid injuries.
